XDD Offers Remedial Technologies Overview In "MGP 101" Course
June 12, 2008

XDD's Dr. Brant Smith is scheduled to discuss remedial strategies and technology options for former manufactured gas plant (MGP) sites on Wednesday, June 18, at the Exelon Energy Center in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Smith's presentation, entitled "Groundwater Clean-Up Technologies for MGP Sites," is part of a one-day "MGP 101" training course being offered by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) during their MGP Program Mid-Year Workshop.

Dr. Smith's portion of the MGP 101 course will focus on approaching MGP sites from a remedial perspective. The presentation will include a discussion of common MGP site contaminants (e.g., BTEX, PAHs, cyanide and chlorinated solvents) as well as a thorough overview of technology treatment options such as In-Situ Chemical Oxidation (ISCO), In-Site Bioremediation (ISB), Solvent/Surfactant Flushing and Thermal Treatment.

Dr. Smith is a senior engineer and laboratory director in XDD's Stratham, NH office, and is one of several experts at XDD who specialize in in-situ remedial design and analysis. Anyone who is unable to attend the June 18 course but is interested in learning more about MGP site remediation options is encouraged to contact Dr. Smith at smith@xdd-llc.com or (800) 486-3575 x236. XDD would welcome the opportunity to discuss any MGP site challenges facing you and your company.
