XDD TO CO-CHAIR SESSION AT UPCOMING BIOREMEDIATION SYMPOSIUM IN RENO, NV

The "Biggest Little In-Situ Remediation Firm in the World" will be heading to the "Biggest Little City in the World" when XDD appears at the International Symposium on Bioremediation and Sustainable Environmental Technologies in Reno, Nevada from June 27-30, 2011. XDD project manager and laboratory director Brant Smith, Ph.D., will be co-chairing Session A8, which is entitled, "Combining Chemical Treatments with Biological Polishing Approaches." The session's platform talks are scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 30, while its associated posters will be displayed on Wednesday, June 29. Topics to be covered include the application of in-situ chemical oxidation/reduction (ISCO/ISCR) remedies in conjunction with in-situ bioremediation (ISB) approaches, as well as the biodegradation of ISCO/ISCR residuals.

XDD PRESENTS: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ISCO/ISB BENCH TESTING

Bench scale treatability tests for remediation technologies such as in-situ chemical oxidation and reduction (ISCO and ISCR) and in-situ bioremediation (ISB) should be an integral part of the remedial evaluation and selection process for one very simple reason: the performance of each of these technologies varies considerably from site to site and subtle differences can result in significant changes to the cost or the actual effectiveness of the field application. In the following article, Dr. Brant Smith - the director of XDD's treatability laboratory - discusses the ins and outs of bench testing, including: the cost-effective nature of initiating bench scale studies, the potential rewards of a well-designed and properly-executed bench test, and whether bench testing is appropriate for all sites and situations.

XDD WINS SERDP GRANT TO STUDY ISCO & METALS MOBILIZATION

XDD, LLC is part of the team that recently won a research grant from the Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP). Dr. Brant Smith, a project manager at XDD, will be a co-principal investigator on a team that brings together scientists and engineers from the academic, federal and private sectors. The research will evaluate the long term impacts to groundwater quality following the application of in-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) with a particular focus on metals mobilization.

XDD ISCO EXPERTS CO-AUTHOR NEW SERDP/ESTCP BOOK

This month saw the release of In Situ Chemical Oxidation for Groundwater Remediation (eds. Siegrist, Crimi, and Simpkin) as part of SERDP/ESTCP's Environmental Remediation Technology Series. This comprehensive volume on the principles and practices of ISCO features several chapters co-authored by XDD President Mike Marley and XDD Project Manager Brant Smith, Ph.D., P.E. Topics covered by Mike and Brant include oxidant delivery approaches, ISCO performance monitoring, and project cost considerations.
